10/28/2021 0 Comments US rejects South Korea's proposal to end Korean War due to stationing of US troopsThe U.S. has rejected South Korea's proposal to sign a formal end to the Korean War. While the U.S. did not provide a concrete reason for this rejection, it is widely believed to be related to the stationing of U.S. troops. A formal end to the war would remove the 'justification' for the stationing of nearly 30,000 U.S. troops in South Korea.
South Korea has been having ongoing discussions with North Korea to formally end the Korean War. If this were to happen it would be a historic milestone to promote peace in the region, and would be an important step to the reunification of Korea.

10/28/2021 0 Comments Japanese politician Taro Aso says climate change has contributed "some good things," like improved rice qualityLong-time Japanese politician and former prime minister Taro Aso said he believes that climate change has contributed "some good things" to Japan, such as "improved quality of rice." The comments have been widely criticized both internationally and within Japan.
Aso has a long history of making controversial remarks. In 2017 he that "Hitler, who killed millions of people, is no good even if his motive was right." In 2020 Aso claimed that Japan has been ruled under one ethnic group and language for 2,000 years, attempting to erase Japan's many ethnic minorities. He also blamed childless people for Japan's declining population and rising social security costs. Red Hill, Oahu, the Hawaiian Kingdom - The U.S. "State of Hawaii" Department of Health has fined the U.S. Navy over $325,000 for safety violations at its Red Hill Underground Fuel Storage Facility located on the island of Oahu in the illegally occupied Hawaiian Kingdom. Hawaiians as well as local residents have long opposed the facility, saying it could poison Oahu's water supply. The U.S. military has an extensive history of water poisoning around the world, including in Okinawa, as well as within the continental United States.

Belarus, China, Cuba, DPRK, Egypt, Eswatini, Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka, Syria, and Venezuela successfully passed a resolution at the UNHRC titled "Negative impact of the legacies of colonialism on the enjoyment of human rights." This is a significant resolution that will help nations in the Global South, including nations who have long suffered under Western / U.S. imperialism, such as Okinawa, Hawaii, and Guam. The resolution faced particularly strong opposition from the United Kingdom, who has an extensive history of colonialism. It also received opposition from a number of other Western European countries, such as the Netherlands, France, and Germany, as well as from Japan and South Korea. Special thanks to Ronald Barnes, Ambassador of the Native peoples of Alaska, for his contributions in pushing for this resolution.
10/19/2021 0 Comments 2 Hong Kong protestors arrested in Greece for illegally hanging a flag on World Heritage siteThe Associated Press has reported that two Hong Kong protestors were arrested in Athens, Greece for allegedly "protesting the Beijing Olympics." However, they were actually arrested for hanging a flag from the Acropolis, which is illegal under Greek law. Numerous others have previously been arrested for hanging flags at the same location, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This is the latest in a long line of distorted reporting by the Associated Press, which frequently misrepresents major international issues in order to promote pro-U.S. rhetoric. This includes the misrepresentation of Okinawa, such as referring to Okinawa as "Japan." Luchuans (Ryukyuans) have never consented to being part of Japan or the United States, and Luchu remains an independent country under international law. Luchu was an a de facto independent country up until 1879, when it was illegally annexed by Japan. In the case of Hong Kong, it was always an undisputed part of China until the 19th century, when the British stole it by force as a result of the Opium Wars. Thus, international law recognizes Hong Kong as rightfully part of China. Today the Hong Kong independence movement is backed by the U.S. and its allies in an effort to destabilize China and prolong Western imperialism. "There is no need for the U.S. marines in Okinawa," stated Kuzashige Fumiya, a former official with the Japan Self-Defense Force, in an op-ed in the Akahata on 17 October 2021. "Removing the marines from Okinawa will resolve the problems."
Fumiya stated that the construction of the U.S. marine base at Henoko, Okinawa in particular was unnecessary. Numerous other U.S. and Japanese military officials have in the past stated similar sentiments. However, construction of the marine base at Henoko continues, despite strong resistance from Okinawans. American war criminal Colin Powell has died at the age of 84 due to complications with COVID-19.
New York Times is crediting Powell as "having shaped U.S. national security." The U.S. has an extensive track record of forcing militarism and imperialism across the world, oppressing nations such as Okinawa, Hawaii, Guam, and many others, in the name of "national security." In 2003 Powell addressed the United Nations, claiming to present "evidence" that Iraq possessed Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD's), paving the way for the U.S. invasion which killed, injured, or displaced millions in the Middle East. The evidence was later revealed to be fabricated; no WMD's were ever found in Iraq. Powell's military career dates back to the U.S. war against Vietnam, in which he participated in the American slaughter of the Vietnamese people, including civilians. Neither Powell nor any member of the U.S. government has ever been held accountable for these crimes against humanity. |
