Belarus, China, Cuba, DPRK, Egypt, Eswatini, Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka, Syria, and Venezuela successfully passed a resolution at the UNHRC titled "Negative impact of the legacies of colonialism on the enjoyment of human rights." This is a significant resolution that will help nations in the Global South, including nations who have long suffered under Western / U.S. imperialism, such as Okinawa, Hawaii, and Guam. The resolution faced particularly strong opposition from the United Kingdom, who has an extensive history of colonialism. It also received opposition from a number of other Western European countries, such as the Netherlands, France, and Germany, as well as from Japan and South Korea. Special thanks to Ronald Barnes, Ambassador of the Native peoples of Alaska, for his contributions in pushing for this resolution. ![]()
