A woman and three-year-old child were injured in a hit-and-run incident caused by a U.S. soldier in the Nago vicinity of northern Okinawa on the 24th of November. It was later revealed that the soldier had a blood alcohol level four times the legal limit. The soldier had veered into an incoming lane, causing the crash, before fleeing the scene. He was later arrested by Okinawan police. The victims sustained minor injuries.
The All-Okinawa Coalition opposed to the U.S. and Japanese military build up in the Luchu (Ryukyu) Islands has won another major political victory. Masashi Toguchi has won a landslide victory in the mayoral election in Chatan Town, where a large U.S. military presence exists. Toguchi is the chosen successor of long-time mayor Masaharu Noguni, who served four terms for a total of sixteen years. Despite being a young, first-time candidate Toguchi finished well-ahead of the other candidates, including Hiroshi Ahagon, backed by Japan's Liberal Democratic Party.

Residents of Myaku (Miyako), one of the Luchu (Ryukyu) Islands south of Okinawa, are condemning the creation of a Japanese Self Defense Force missile base, saying they have been betrayed by Mayor Kazuyuki Zakimi, who was elected on the premise of stopping the base.
The citizens of Myaku have strongly opposed the base on the grounds that it makes them a target for attack, takes away their land, and destroys the environment. They are pointing out that there was no real choice in the election, and that both candidates were controlled by Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) that supports the U.S. and Japanese military occupation of Luchu.
Mayor Zikimi is claiming that legally there is nothing he can do to stop the base.
"Luchu is still a colony of Japan," tweeted @namitan_916 in response. "Japanese laws and procedures are imposed by the colonizers. Originally [under independence], there was no reason for Luchuans to comply [with Japanese law]."

The U.S. military has conducted an investigation determining that the U.S. military did not do anything wrong when they sent a drone strike that killed ten innocent civilians in Kabul, Afghanistan.
This, of course, is like a murderer conducting an investigation on themselves, determining they are not guilty of murder.
The Peace For Okinawa Coalition urges the United Nations and the international community at large to hold the United States accountable for their warcrimes and crimes against humanity.
